Walk along the beach to the east and alongside the River Arun, is West Beach, a Nature Reserve, and at the top of the beach is the West Beach Cafe, highly recommended for its fish and chips. Continue walking along the riverbank, past the Golf and Sailing Clubs and you will come to a footbridge over the river leading into Littlehampton. Walking to the west you will come to the villages of Elmer and Middleton, Felpham and eventually Bognor Regis.

Upstream, to the north, you have the beauty of the South Downs National Park to discover, stopping on the way at Arundel with its imposing Castle, the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the coastal and downland views is definitely worth the effort. This delightful town is full of antique shops, galleries, boutiques, bistros, tea rooms and Pubs. The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. The Arundel Wildflowl and Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans.
